Helderberg Chess Club is a hub for chess enthusiasts in the Helderberg region—serving Strand, Somerset West, and Gordon’s Bay.  The club is home to some of the strongest players and most respected coaches in the Western Cape Metro.

Social Chess Events

Boards are provided and one of our coaches is always present to offer a short lesson and guidance. Newcomers are always welcome!

Wednesday Evenings at The Warren
🕕 18:00 – 20:00
Each Wednesday includes a “puzzle of the week,” revealed later in the session with a coach-led discussion highlighting the key principles behind the solution.

Library Mornings – Every Second Saturday
🕙 10:00 – 12:00
Held at Gordon’s Bay and Somerset West Libraries, these sessions focus on development and growth. The library partnership also feeds into an annual inter-library chess tournament to crown the strongest local library team.
