The juniors sections concluded their games yesterday(U20, U16, and U12). It was a successful event that gave us an opportunity to see what our future champs are capable of.

Side Note: A big thank you to all the people that made this all possible. From The Organizers, Arbiters, and also the parents who either came with their kids or give them the emotional support they needed in order to compete!

Under 12 Championship

The under 12 section concluded with Strydom Henroux as the winner, whilst Mabhera Jedidah and Kajol Naidoo managed to get the other two podium spots.

Both Strydom Henroux and Jedidah Mabhera finished on 5,5 out of 6 points. Impressively the only half a point they both lost was in their game against each other which ended in a draw.

So it was basically up to the tiebreak to decide the winner and Henroux got the better tiebreak. Naidoo Kajolwas on a perfect run until the last round when she lost to Strydom Henroux.

This was an impressive showing from the Juniors as the top ten had managed to get 4,5 or more points at the end of the tournament.

Under 16 Championship

After 6 roundsSoojay Jorah managed to convert his starting rank into a tournament win. In second and third place we had CM Liam Baruch and Migael Van Schaik.

Both Soojay Jorah and CM Liam Baruch Managed to finish with a perfect score of 6/6, only separated by tiebreaks.

Third-placed Migael Van Schaik had 5/5 going into the last round but couldn’t handle Soojay Jorah’s attack in their encounter.

Under 20 Championship

This section had players we all knew are capable of making it to the elite level of chess. Not only do they show their skills online but also in some of the OTB events they play.

The final results saw Mnyatsa Tezihano finishing ahead of Lwazi Selepe and Thabang Mankga in the section.

Mnyasta Tezihano managed to finish the event with a perfect score, whilst Lwazi Selepe and Thabang Mankga each only lost 1 round.

What’s even more impressive is that some of the U20 participants are also participating in the Open Section. Hopefully, they will also perform well in that section.
