All the pairings are set and warriors are prepared for war as the Bonjala FIDE in the Sparkling Waters 2023 Chess Tournament is just a few hours away.
The tournament is a 6-round Swiss event with each player getting a 1h30min+ 30 seconds increament. As if that wasn’t entertaining enough, it will occur from today(28 July 2023) until 20 July 2023 meaning my weekend is totally booked.
For those who are unable to go and observe the tournament live, don’t worry we have a broadcast link for you: https://live.idchess.com/app/show/tournament/eyJpZCI6MTk4NCwicGFzc3dvcmQiOm51bGx9?tour=eyJpZCI6MTA2MTQsInBhc3N3b3JkIjpudWxsfQ==
This event has 3 notable titled players, IM Johannes Mabusela, FM Joseph Mwale, and FM Banele Mhango who have been National Champions in the slower or faster time controls.
We also have an FM-elect in Michael Simpson who is around 30 elos away from officially becoming a FIDE Master. It will be exciting to see how he performs in this event.
While this event is being held in Rustenburg South Africa, it does have strong International players from neighboring countries like Botswana and Lesotho.
Don’t mind the ratings… players like Tsephe Lebajoa will most likely cause so-called upsets because generally, their ratings are not accurate due to few rated players in their respective countries.
