SA’s most exciting high school chess championship is BACK! Introducing the Alexforbes Battle Boards Chess Championship 2026!

We’re excited to bring the battle to all 9 provinces in South Africa – Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West, and Western Cape!

Please note the following:

• This is an online chess competition on chess.com. Players/schools should have devices, like computers, tablets or cellphones, with a stable internet connection.
• Teams should consist of 7 players + 1 reserve (minimum of 7 players, maximum of 14 players). All 7 players must be available to play *at one venue* for the *duration that matches take place on the day*.
• This is a high school chess competition.

Qualifier Stage – Provincial Championships
02 May 2026: Free State
09 May 2026: Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo and Northern Cape
16 May 2026: KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga
23 May 2026: North West and Western Cape

Final Stage – National Championships
Pool Stage: Saturday, 01 August 2026| 08:00–16:00
Playoffs and Finals: Saturday, 15 August 2026 | 08:00–16:00
