It was with much excitement that we launched the book entitled “My Game Plan- My quest to become a chess grandmaster” by GM Kenny Solomon and Dr Lyndon Bouah. The launch took place on 14 July 2022.
This book details the game plan Grandmaster Kenneth Solomon from Cape Town, South Africa adopted to obtain the grandmaster title. Starting from his upbringing in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town, the book looks at his formative years and chronicles the illustrious chess career of South Africa’s first grandmaster. GM Solomon won his junior SA titles in his school years and at the age of 19 won his first of multiple SA Senior titles.
The book is filled with tales from various countries where GM Solomon travelled to play and his road to bring the grandmaster title to South Africa. Kenneth recalls the lessons he received from various people and in his 157 games which he has analysed, he also gives invaluable lessons for players of all levels.
GM Kenneth Solomon won the SA Open in 1999, 2005 and 2007. In 2003 GM Kenneth won the SA Closed Championship in 2003 and the African Individual Championship in 2014. He has played more than 100 times in the Chess Olympiads and played consecutively in ten Olympiads from 1998 to 2016. He will be playing in his eleventh Olympiad in 2022 in Chennai, India.
